A Study on the Marital Bond of the Hospitalized Psychiatric Disordered Women in Korea





Abstract
In order to collect baseline data to prevent female mental disorders and to take care of the mentally disordered women, the present study was attempted to examine the relationship between marital bond of the hospitalized psychiatric disordered women and their contributing psychosocial variables of mental disorder.
Subjects served for the study consisted of 333 cases of the hospitalized psychiatric disordered women to be admitted Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, Chung Ang University Hospital during recent three years.
Data were analyzed by CDC-174 computer of KAIST, using SPSS program, and were statistically analyzed by chi-square method.
The results of the study were presented below.
1) Of 333 cases of mentally disordered women, the affective disorder was the most prominent type(42. 9%), and it was more prevalent in the post-menopausal women aged from 45 to 59 years old. And the neurotic disorder(35.4%) was more prevalent in the initial phase of marriage, while the schizophrenic disorder was in the middle age women, aged from 35 to 44 years old.
2) On the marital bond of the mentally disordered women, the conflict habituated marital
bond was the most prominent type(35.1%) comparing with the devitalized marital bond (27.6%) or the mutual accepting democratic marital bond(33.0%).
3) The more the conflict habituated marital bond was, the longer their onest of mental disorder, the more conflict with their spouse, the more admission during winter season, and the higher chance of readmission were.
4) The more the conflict habituated marital bond was, the more chance of only daughter is their sibling orders, the younger in their age at the moment of admission, the lesser chance of working women, the higher level of education both patients and their husband, aid the lesser believing religion were.
5) The lesser acceptable in their marital bond was, the more living together with their mother-in-law, the lesser occurrence of their parental death, the more conflict with. children, the more chance of the marital disruption such as marital separation or divorce with their husband were.
6) The lesser acceptable in their marital bond was, the older age group comparing with their husband¢¥s age, more in the thirties or the forties in their husband¢¥s ages, the mom their duration of marriage between 6 and 15 years after marriage were.
7) The lesser acceptable marital bond was, the more complaints of their marital disharmony with their husband, the higher occurrence of their husband¢¥s extramarital affairs, the beginning phase of marriage or in the later phase of marriage were.
